Radial and Nonradial Minimizers for Some Radially Symmetric Functionals

چکیده
In a previous paper we have considered the functional V (u) = 1 2 ∫ RN | grad u(x)| dx+ ∫ RN F (u(x)) dx subject to ∫ RN G(u(x)) dx = λ > 0 , where u(x) = (u1(x), . . . , uK(x)) belongs to H 1 K(R ) = H(R ) × · · · × H(R) (K times) and | grad u(x)| means ∑K i=1 | gradui(x)|. We have shown that, under some technical assumptions and except for a translation in the space variable x, any global minimizer is radially symmetric. In this paper we consider a similar question except that the integrals in the definition of the functionals are taken on some set Ω which is invariant under rotations but not under translations, that is, Ω is either a ball, an annulus or the exterior of a ball. In this case we show that for the minimization problem without constraint, global minimizers are radially symmetric. However, for the constrained problem, in general, the minimizers are not radially symmetric. For instance, in the case of Neumann boundary conditions, even local minimizers are not radially symmetric (unless they are constant). In any case, we show that the global minimizers have a symmetry of codimension at most one. We use our method to extend a very well known result of Casten and Holland to the case of gradient parabolic systems. The unique continuation principle for elliptic systems plays a crucial role in our method.

MHD Flow of Blood through Radially Non-symmetric Stenosed Artery: a Hershcel-Bulkley Model (RESEARCH NOTE)
The purpose of this study is to develop a mathematical model for studying the magnetic field effect on blood flow through an axially non-symmetric but radially symmetric atherosclerotic artery. Herschel-Bulkley equation has been taken to represent the non-Newtonian character of blood. The response of magnetic field, stenosis height, shape parameter on velocity, volumetric flow rate in stenotic ...

This article presents an exact solution for an axisymmetric functionally graded piezoelectric (FGP) rotating disk with constant thickness subjected to an electric field and thermal gradient. All mechanical, thermal and piezoelectric properties except for Poisson’s ratio are taken in the form of power functions in radial direction. After solving the heat transfer equation, first a symmetric dist...

An analysis has been presented of the effect of elastic foundation and uniform in-plane peripheral loading on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of circular plates of varying thickness exhibiting bi-directional functionally graded characteristics, on the basis of first order shear deformation theory. The material properties of the plate are varying following a power-law in both the radial ...
متن کاملNonlocal Interactions by Repulsive-attractive Potentials: Radial Ins/stability
We investigate nonlocal interaction equations with repulsive-attractive radial potentials. Such equations describe the evolution of a continuum density of particles in which they repulse each other in the short range and attract each other in the long range. We prove that under some conditions on the potential, radially symmetric solutions converge exponentially fast in some transport distance ...
